X Copyright and Intellectual Property: Handling Media and Reused Posts

Sharing an image, video, music track, or written passage does not automatically grant permission to redistribute it. Copyright questions depend on ownership, licence terms, jurisdiction, and the nature of the use. Platform reporting mechanisms can lead to content restrictions, so publishers should retain licences, permission records, and source information for material they upload.

Before posting, determine whether the asset is original, licensed, public domain, or covered by a relevant exception. Credit is valuable but does not by itself replace permission. If content is removed, read the notice carefully and follow the official dispute process when there is a good-faith basis. Avoid reposting the same material through minor edits as a way to evade a valid restriction.
