AI-Generated Content: Editorial Accountability, Originality, and Search Compliance

AI-assisted content is not automatically disallowed by search policies. The principal concern is whether content is produced at scale to manipulate rankings or whether it provides genuine value, accurate information, and a responsible user experience. Automation can increase productivity, but it can also multiply errors, fabricated references, generic prose, and unsupported assertions.

A mature editorial process establishes source requirements, fact-checking responsibilities, disclosure practices where appropriate, and clear criteria for publication. High-impact claims should be verified against authoritative primary material. Product comparisons should reflect real attributes; technical instructions should be tested; quotations and citations should be traceable. Reviewers must assess meaning, not merely grammar.

Originality is more demanding than replacing synonyms or rearranging headings. A useful article contributes analysis, first-hand testing, transparent methodology, contextual interpretation, or a clearer decision framework. If a generated draft cannot be distinguished from dozens of competing summaries, it needs substantive editorial development. The publisher remains accountable for the final page regardless of which tools contributed to its creation.
